This document reports on how well the Philippines complies with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, a US act which seeks to eliminate all forms of human enslavement. The country is ranked Tier 2, an improvement from 2010 when it was on the watch list. The report notes that enslavement is rampant mostly in the form of child and woman prostitution as well as forced labour in and out of the country. Hence, the report also recommends strategies to prosecute traffickers, protect victims, and prevent many others from victimization.

 

Prostitution Along Quezon Avenue and Suporta At Gabay sa Ikalalaya sa Prostitusyon ng Kababaihan (SAGIP-K): A Case Study

With an aim to educate the public of SAGIP-K’s cause to rescue women out of prostitution, this report highlights the findings of a demographic study involving 314 respondents. The respondents were predominantly prostituted women, prostituted male homosexuals and pimps whose work was based in Quezon City.  This report also mentions two cases of abuse implicating members of the police force. Finally, it recommends what may be done to eliminate prostitution with an emphasis on building a center that is able to help women heal emotionally as well as empower them financially.

 

FY2009 Women Leader Empowerment Seminar in Asia Pacific Region – Country Report Philippines

This presentation was shared at the Empowerment Seminar for Women Leaders in the Asia Pacific Region that was organized by the National Women’s Education Center, Japan. Statistical data are provided regarding the various forms of violence against women (VAW) and the yearly trends of reported cases. Examples of governmental and non-governmental coalitions and interventions are included.  The authors conclude with best practices to end VAW and recommendations for the future.

 

Global Monitoring Report on the Status of Action Against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

In response to the ten-year mark of the First World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), this report was created to collect information on actions taken against CSEC in the Philippines in light of the adopted Agenda for Action framework. It begins by providing an overview of the current state of CSEC in the Philippines. Local, regional, national and international actions are highlighted. Legislation that pertains to CSEC is described and evaluated. The report concludes by identifying priority actions which urgently need to be completed.

 

Coalitions Against Trafficking in Human Beings in the Philippines: Research and Action Final Report

To increase existing knowledge about human trafficking of Filipinos to destinations outside of their own country, research projects were conducted in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, and the Philippines and compiled into one final report. Data were collected through interviewing victims, criminal justice experts and NGOs as well as reviewing trafficking case files.  The data was analyzed to provide information about topics such as recruitment methods, fraudulent documents, involvement of organized crime, coercion and reporting patterns.
