The report also provides annexes which contain substantial and relevant information, including how the UK compares with other developed nations in its approach to exploitation.

This document serves as a template for any UN member-state if it decides to uphold the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime as well as the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children. Flexibly worded, the document is designed to adapt to the needs of each member-state with consideration of its legal tradition and social, economic, cultural, and geographical conditions. The provisions set in the document are either required or recommended by the UN.

 

An Introduction to Human Trafficking: Vulnerability, Impact and Action

In February 2008, the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT) held the Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking. This document was created to provide background information for the forum participants. It is comprised of three papers by anti-trafficking experts that address why human trafficking occurs (vulnerability), the human and social consequences of human trafficking (impact), and innovative approaches to solving complex problems (action). The UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children is a legally binding instrument that provides an agreed-upon definition of trafficking in persons.  This report reviews current human trafficking laws and policies in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka with the intent of determining protocol compliance within domestic laws.  Gaps and recommendations for prosecution, protection, and prevention are provided for each of the countries.
