Responding to God’s calling to become a full-time missionary staff at Samaritana was not an easy decision for me.  I was working then in a secular job and felt content with my regular salary.  This began to change when I started to volunteer in 1992 by visiting 5 streetwomen in a squatter area for Bible study.  Having developed friendships with them, the Lord placed a strong burden and compassion in my heart.  In my quiet moments with the Lord, I felt His invitation to serve Him full-time in this ministry but I tried to run and ignore His words. There were uncertainties and difficult questions for me to face.

I felt so inadequate in this work and uneasy with the fact that I have to raise my own support.  But the Lord quieted my heart and spoke to me in scripture in Isa. 61:1 “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners… “.  I trusted the Lord for His wisdom and provision for my needs. On August 23, 1993, I responded to His call and became a full-time worker of Samaritana.

The Lord is indeed faithful. He has equipped me to do His work and has never failed to provide for my needs for thirteen (13) years now. For the first eight years, I was involved in various functions such as  streetwork or outreach, home visitations, administrative work and visiting some women living with HIV/AIDS.  Now, my primary task is focused on advocacy work which calls for policy reform and structural change particularly in local government units.  I spearhead education and training on the anti-trafficking law with Quezon City Police, barangay leaders and city council.  I collaborate with other NGOs and mobilize pastors and church workers in advocacy effort.  I am also involved in organizing ‘pick-up’ girls along Quezon Avenue, and advocate for their protection from discrimination and abuses from policemen and barangay officials.

A Challenge for Ministry Partners
This work would not be possible without the prayers and financial support of brothers & sisters in Christ. I am continually trusting God for people who can be partners by giving financial support for me to do His work.  As the Lord leads you, please prayerfully consider this challenge by navigating to the Giving to Samaritana page and see how you can help. The Lord bless you and keep you in His loving care.
